I need to tell you about the time I lost $500 in seven minutes, and what it taught me about copying other traders.
It started with a Twitter post… “Join our crypto pump group, we are hitting 300% gains in minutes. Next pump is tomorrow, limited spots”.
It sounded too good to be true, but I convinced myself… “What if it’s real? What if I miss out?”
So, I joined the Telegram group. The group had 15000+ members, with screenshots everywhere. People were claiming they had turned $200 into $3,000 overnight.
Here’s how it was supposed to work… At exactly 3 PM, the admins would announce a coin, everyone would buy at once, creating a massive price spike (the “pump”). Then we would all sell at the top and walk away with easy profits. It was super simple, coordinated, and foolproof.
Except for one thing I didn’t realize until it was too late… I wasn’t part of the plan; I was the plan.
Here is what actually happened… The admins already knew which coin they were pumping hours, maybe days in advance. They had quietly bought massive positions at rock-bottom prices. Then they announced the coin to the group. The 15,000 of us panic-bought, driving the price up instantly. And in that exact moment, while we were all congratulating ourselves on being “early”, the admins were selling, dumping their bags onto us, cashing out at the peak we just created for them.
By the time I clicked “buy,” the price had already spiked 200%; and, by the time my order filled, it had started crashing.
Within three minutes, I was down 40%, within seven minutes, the coin was worth less than when it started… I lost $500.
The admins, you can say… they had a good trading day taking hundreds of thousands of dollars off people like me.
